Packing for my the trip

I'll leaving for US and Bahamas from 19 May to 12 June, totally 25 days for a wedding of my lady's family, and take this chance to have a long vacation before Cedric go start his school life.
So photographing is a must for this trip. But, what should I bring? Of course, a digital camera is a must, but a film camera would have better quality. Ah... a video camcorder is needed to shoot my jumping son. So my imaging packing list is:

1) Digtial Camera Konica Minolta A2, and the flash which I borrowed from my brother Wallace. Before, I decided to bring my EOS300D with 2 lenses and the flash, but consider the weight factor, I gave up this choice.

2) A water proof camera Canon Prima AS-1 for shooting at the Miami Beach and the wonderful Disney water world.

3) Medium format Mamiya 7 with 2 lenses and 10 rolls of 220 film.

4) Last, is the video camcorder.

Beside the above imaging equipment, I also bring my 15" PowerBook for saving the images and checking e-mail, web-browsing, etc, during the trip. A pair of walkie-talkie (FRS channel), mobile phone for communication. All the above is the least that I think of. Beside the equipment themself, I have to bring with their own chargers and batteries so that they can work for me. Totally, I have to bring 5 chargers and a bunch of batteries.

I'm already tired when I see the luggage.

Tripod and shutter release cable ah!!!!

Too late.

Why on earth would you need to bring a DV when the A2 shoots such nice video? Though it was my intension to do so, I can't imagine myself carrying my 10 incher..... Fujitsu P5010 notebook computer, let alone a 15" PB. A digital wallet would be my choice and possibly replacing 135 film along with that PB...

With all that equipment, you are still short of a palm size "sidearm" P&S for those quick moments or an evening out for a nice dinner. For you Canon buffs, an IXUS 700, with its now 1GB movie clip limit, would be a very nice replacement for the A2 and the DV and would have supplemented well and allowing you to bring your Canon 300D. A diving case for that IXUS 700 which you don't yet have would have been great in replacing that AS-1 and allowing you to forgo 135 film entirely as well as being able to go 45' depth instead of 10' with the AS-1.

Mamiya 7 is a must for real photography on any trip. No arguments there.

Have a safe and funfill trip!

Enjoy your trip and leave the heavy gears at home. Just bring alone your 300D, 2 zoom lens + 1 prime, and together with a pocket size DC would be good enough. Mamiya 7? Is your trip really that serious in photo? You should also bring a tripod if so!

Underwater shot? Bet you will have some other more important things to attend to when you're in the water. So forget it.

Travel light, and enjoy your trip!

Well, it's too late.

Bahama mamas! No way leaving that underwater camera at home for this kind of trip. The quality of the AS-1 is better than those single use underwater film cameras even if it meant bringing extra 135 film as well. And certainly much better than caught without an underwater camera in the Bahamas. I had a ball with my AS-1 in KK and only wish I had a case for a compact DC with decent video but they were not available a couple of years back.
